In the year 1867 John Holt and his 2 brothers Thomas and Jonathon operated a merchandising business in West Africa, and opened trade links to British markets. Records show that the business was a partnership of the Holt brothers - John, Thomas and Jonathon - from 1884 to 1897. In 1897 a limited company was formed - John Holt & Co. Ltd.
